Managed and maintained by local youth, our nursery is the only nursery led by local youth for local youth in Los Angeles.

Under our burgeoning volunteer program, local youth and community members can immerse themselves within the intricacies of our living systems. Volunteers get to personally impact and witness every life stage of each plant that’s produced at the nursery: from initial seed collection during guided field hikes at the park, all the way to the final out-planting of their seeds-turned-trees during “restoration” days.

Our nursery enables young people to play a real and vital role in the transformation of their communities, as they gain agency over their own lives. Every volunteer directly contributes to the greening of their city, under the tutelage of fellow Angelenos from their own generation. Together, we can and will build a better and greener future.

Check out our Events page to find out about upcoming volunteer actions at the Nursery.

The Nursery has three primary goals

  • Using seeds, cuttings, etc. harvested from the local native plants, to propagate native plants and trees which, when mature, will mitigate air pollution and sequester carbon;

  • Serve as a “green” educational center for the nearly 30,000 students in the local community

  • Demonstrate sustainable landscaping to the general public - fostering the creation of future land stewards
